A taste of Spain (happy feet)

Blame it on Chanel. Or maybe Karl. Those cap toe espadrilles in leather or canvas have been popping up everywhere this season. And they’re cute. Really cute (but sadly still out of most of our price ranges).

They’re definitely responsible for putting flat espadrilles on my radar during our recent trip to Spain.

If you can’t join ’em, beat ’em right? Authentic might even be better than designer (though I won’t say no to a gifted pair of the Chanel ones). I found these sweet espadrilles in my husband’s home town of Zaragoza on our recent trip to Spain. I love the crochet lace addition to the traditional espadrille. Fun fact: these little ones don’t have a proper “left” and “right” foot.

If you want to learn more about them I’ll let Wikipedia fill you in. I will share that “the oldest, most primitive form of espadrilles go as far back as 4000 years ago.” Talk about a fashion comeback!

If a trip to Spain isn’t on your itinerary (and like me the Chanel version is a bit out of your budget) then US brand Soludos has some really adorable (and affordable) options. In Canada you can find them at Town Shoes and The Bay.

Happy (shoe) shopping!
